Complete newby to mat surfing after surfing on and off (mostly off) for nearly 40 years. Anyone/any surfshop in Swansea I can get advice/info on kit? Plan to spend spring 2013 in Spain so attracted to the portable (bikeable) option.

Forget shops mate. They generally won't know what you're on about and will just dig out a changing mat!

We can give you all the advice you need. You can buy a mat through here, either via the shop or see if anyone is offloading one. The mats we sell can be a struggle for beginners so it's worth checking with Paul Gross (4th Gear Flyer) via www.surfmats.com . PG can hook you up with a canvas deck mat to suit your needs.

For general reading have a look in the ALL ABOUT MATS part of the site.

    Cheers
