Re: Thermal Rashie ?
Hi there,
For what its worth yep have a rip curl thermal non neoprene polyester/elastene type with a brushed internal surface, long sleeves and a high polo neck. I used it under my old winter suit a rip curl 4/3 blindstitched with a crew neck and there lay the problem. Although the rashie polo neck was nice to wear it left the polo neck exposed to the water, as I only wore a standard hood and not a hood with a full neck skirt which you put the suit over, hence first wave and ugghh wet neck and gradually it would seep into the chest and back area of the suit. Only wore it a couple of times couldn't bear to cut the neck off it, but have used it on its own abroad more as sun screener due to my little tait a tait with skin cancer on me head and the consultant said to protect the neck as well!
Anyway back to the records,I now have an O'neill mutant chest zip which has a zippable combo of a normal crew neck or a full hood and neck skirt ie they both zip on front and back great for baldies like me who don't want to be encased in a full hood all winter and can when the sea temps up use the crew neck attachment and a standard hood with cut away neck area.
I have also used a 1mm neoprene vest/looks like a t-shirt with the sleeves cut off under my old suit and yes it does help the core temp but don't forget if your current suits tight that 1mm will make a difference to how the suit fits and feels whilst moving. Having said all that I was more into stand up and loads of paddling where as with the mat dont need such a lot of arm paddling.
Hope you get a solution as the waters not down to last years low yet!!! Good on ya for the christmas matting you water man you. mart.
