I've started on a new board. Kinda Flexi-belly-fish type thing.

15 7/8" wide. 4' long. Parallel rails. Round nose. Fishtail.

Rough cut done. Sanding to go. Gonna seal it with Stung Oil.

I sand down to 120 max, I like to keep a bit of roughness on it as I find it helps to suck the board on to the face.

Yeah I tend not to go nuts. Saves on waxing the top too which saves getting wax on my suit and saves on getting wax on my mat. Smile

I tend to do it on hot sunny days, so this weekends gonna be good. Shake it up and put about an inch into a jar then pour in some white spirit, usually do it by eye but as its ply and the first coats Id go 50/50. Leave the board on the horses outside in the sun and apply the first coat with a brush be very liberal with it. On the tin its says half an hour between coats but I like to leave it for an hour so it soaks in. Get a clean rag, old thin cotton shirts are good or Ts. Rub very hard up and down the grain and keep going until all the excees is in the rag, then let it cure for about half an hour. If theres little bobbles of oil get some fine paper and lightly sand, not much just quick. Then repeat the process but using less and less white spirit in the mix. I found that three or four coats of thinned and then a final pure oil ( usualy the next day) works a treat. I reoiled Nics board as it only had two thin coats before it got wet, itll build up layers a bit like varnish over time, it also starts to age and darken which looks and feels good. I reckon you could keep oilng and oiling a bit like a french polish

I need to properly oil the one I posted as its only had one so Ill post some pics over the weekend Wink

Nose needs a bit of fine-tuning then on to oiling.

Ho hum... 4 coats of oil but water has still got in. Matt23 suspects glue seams and I suspect that's right.

Off to B&Q for some trusty docking oil!
