THE FIN POOL SHOOTOUT Empty THE FIN POOL SHOOTOUT

Post  Blimp Fri Oct 12, 2012 7:08 am

Took several types of fin to my local pool for comparison they are rated in the following Drive both long and short style of kicks. Acceleration and comfort.
    The Contenders
Zogg your standard swimming training fin
    Pod fins mark 2
    Da fin
    My cut down Ducks

First in the drive was the DA fins closeley followed by the Ducks very much behind these were the Pods and little better than the Zoggs

Accleration first were the Ducks followed by Da fin although the Da fins had slightly more drive than the Ducks the Ducks beat them over 25 metres because of there much better acceleration.

Comfort the Zogg training fin and the pod fitted well the Ducks a bit of squeeze with 3mm socks the Da fin not so comfortable partly because they sit on the ball of my foot should have gone for the next size down.

    Conculsion
Not much in the Da fins and my ducks but found I could do 200 metres much more easily in my Ducks due to there better fit Pods were a major disappointment in every department apart from comfort it's a wonder how I ever made outback with these on my feet

Yeah great work mate. Interesting that your experiences with original Duckfeet is the exact opposite of my experience of the new ones!

    Well done.

My Ducks have had the grinder treatment so are slighly shorter but much more flexible which accounts for the better acceleration.

What I found interasting was the difference between the Zogg training fin and the Pod. The Pod has a blade that is twice as big and is as stiff as it is possible to make where as the Zogg you can bend in half and has a blade half the size of the Pod but delivered nearly the same amount of thrust. Now if the Zogg had the same size blade as the Pod just how much thrust would it have.Maybe stiff blade are not the answer to thrust.

If that was the case you wouldn't have trust from DaFin.

Perhaps Pod fins are just a lacking design. I suspect the blade position is more of a factor as pods are more around your foot than off the end of it.

Not sure why Da fins had so much more Thrust than the Pods but you could really notice how much harder it was getting the Da fins going compared to the others, and once up to speed they had more thrust. My only problem is mat surfing is more about burst of speed rather than prolonged speed over distance. It is horses for courses as you say. Individual technique must play a part too because your description of the difference is theeexact opposite of mine with the lack of burst speed being a major with Duckfeet!

If only I could trade my top speed with Ducks for your top speed with DaFin we'd both be doing 0-60 in the blink of an eye and motoring around the line up like jetskis!
