Made a handplane for a mate from glueing up a euro pallet, Joe gave me the idea.

Re: Euro pallet handplane
Looks lovely. Displacement handjob!
How do you find the weight? There are loads of palets around my way and I've been toying with using them for Paipos for a little while. Not sure of the advantages over marine ply though.

PS Clever strap.

Re: Euro pallet handplane
Cheers
We get loads go through the wharehouse, sometimes when you pick one up it just feels really light so I cut one up. The other thing to watch out for is knots, I reckon for weight and lack of knots about 1 in every 10ish. Just keep picking them up to get an idea of weight. Dunno if Id make a paipo as theres loads of nail holes, Joes your man on this stuff
Im giving it to my mate tomorrow, would a light coat of thinned oil over the cork seal it? Dont want it to blow.
The strap...got through a few straps due to diferent webbing, the last stuff was very soft with a looser weave, it looked the same though. When you put it through a sewing machine it bunches up and looks crap, if anyone needs a link PM me.

Cheers.
Never used Cork but I suspect it might act a little like foam and suck up the oil. God knows!!!

Nice one matt nice shape
Poly varnish will stop the suck up on cork, all the floors of the 70's and 80's used it you would never have to worry about re finishing again not the most eco but alot less hassel.
